We spent all day Monday doing sight-seeing in and around the iconic sights of the Cape. First stop was Cape Point - a mountainous and scenic land form at the extreme south-western tip of the African continent and where, disputably, the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet.
After departing Cape Point it didn't take long to find a streetside market or two. These really are something to see - completely, authentically handmde African curios (typically carved out of ebony, ironwood and various stones) laid out on tables in any location large enough for both the tables and for cars to park. And in a breath-taking location. We felt it our duty as tourists to improve the local economy, so naturally we made a stop and maybe a purchase or two.
Next on the itinerary was a drive along Chapman's Peak Drive, a road which hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Hand-carved out of the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at the time regarded as a major feat of engineering.
